​PAWTUCKET – Grab your cameras and snap that picture! The City of Pawtucket and The Camera Werks proudly announce the 24th Annual City of Pawtucket Photo Contest! Twelve winning photos will be selected by a panel of local professional photographers and placed in the 2023 City Calendar. This year’s photo contest judges include Butch Adams, Richard Benjamin, Christy Christopoulos, Peter Goldberg and Aaron Usher.
This annual contest provides an opportunity to bring awareness to the daily life, historic locations and the ever-changing landscape of Pawtucket through the lens of a camera. The contest is open to residents and non-residents alike, but the photo must be taken in Pawtucket. After a public call for photo contest themes was advertised in January, twenty-seven contest themes were received from the general public for consideration. “CELEBRATE ! Pawtucket” submitted by Dale Rogers of Pawtucket was selected for this year’s photo theme.
Contest Rules: All photo submissions should follow the contest theme and must be taken in the city of Pawtucket within the past year. Only one entry per contestant will be accepted and must be submitted by the photographer entering the contest. Photo entries may be taken in color or B&W, but it is preferred the photo be taken horizontally, since winning photos will be used in the City of Pawtucket Calendar. All photo submissions must be uploaded in JPEG format and should be of high quality and high-resolution dpi. Digital cameras or cell phones may be used to take your photo.
All photo entries will be exhibited on the City of Pawtucket website, www.pawtucketri.com. Submissions should be email to psz333@aol.com. Deadline for entry: Friday, August 5, 2022.
All twelve winning photos will be used in the City of Pawtucket’s 2023 Calendar. The Mayor’s Choice Award will receive a $100 cash prize. First Place will receive a $75.00 cash prize. Second Place will receive a $50.00 cash prize and other remaining winners will receive gift certificates.

Only one entry per contestant will be accepted and must be submitted by the photographer entering the contest. Submitted photos should be mounted on foamcore or mountboard, but not framed; overall size of the mounted photo should not be smaller than 8”x10” or larger than 12”x18”.  All photos will be displayed at the Blackstone Valley Visitor Center during the City of Pawtucket’s Arts Festival in September. The Mayor’s Choice Award will receive a $100 cash prize. First Place will receive a $75.00 cash prize. Second Place will receive a $50.00 cash prize and other remaining winners will receive gift certificates.
 
All winning photos will be used in the City of Pawtucket’s 2020 Calendar. Submissions will be accepted from May 1stto August 3rd, and should be dropped off at The Camera Werks, 766 Hope Street, Providence, Tuesday – Saturday 10:00 a.m.– 5:30 p.m. For further information, please call (401) 273-5367.

​Over 450 submissions have been received for the City of Pawtucket’s 19th Annual Photo Contest and are on display throughout the month of September in the Visitor Center Gallery, 175 Main Street, Pawtucket, RI. From these 450 entries, twelve winning photos, will be selected by a panel of local professional photographers. Following tradition, one winning photo will be chosen by Mayor Donald R. Grebien for the distinct honor of being used for the 'cover shot' of the City Calendar. All winning photos will be used in the City of Pawtucket's 2018 Photo Calendar. 


The contest was open to residents and non-residents alike, but the photo must have been taken in Pawtucket. After a public call for photo contest themes was advertised in January, approximately 10 theme suggestions were received. The theme selected for this year’s contest was “The Flavor of Pawtucket” submitted by Wendy Jencks of Cumberland. 

This annual contest provides an opportunity to bring awareness to daily life, historic locations and the ever-changing landscape of Pawtucket through the lens of a camera. The entire 5th grade population from the 10 elementary public schools in the City of Pawtucket participated in a photo workshop this past spring, and their final photo projects are part of this contest. These schools included: Elizabeth Baldwin, M. V. Cunningham, Flora S. Curtis, Curvin-McCabe, Fallon Memorial, Nathanael Greene, Agnes E. Little, Potter-Burns, Francis J. Varieur, and Henry J. Winters Elementary Schools. The contest was open to residents and non-residents alike, but the photo must have been taken in Pawtucket. 

All photos will be on display at the Blackstone Valley Visitor’s Center during the City of Pawtucket’s Arts Festival throughout the month of September. Mayor’s Choice Award will receive $100 cash prize, First Place will receive $75.00 cash prize, 2nd Place will receive $50.00 cash prize with remaining winners receiving gift certificates. All winning photos will be used in the City of Pawtucket’s 2018 Calendar. Winners will be announced by Mayor Donald R. Grebien on Sunday, September 24th at 4:00pm at a public reception where they may meet the contest judges at the Blackstone Valley Visitor’s Center, 175 Main Street, Pawtucket.

About our Judges:

Butch Adams, previous award winning photographer from The Pawtucket Times and recipient of several awards from the National Press Association, the New England Press Association and the RI Press Association for his photography. 

Richard Benjamin, a former staff photographer for the Providence Journal and now a freelance assignment photographer, and also a provider of stock photos of Rhode Island, in addition to publishing several books on his photography. 

Omar Bradley, is a local photographer whose style of work is known as "street photography". His professional journey began as a young intern at the Providence Journal in the 1960's and eventually became their first minority photographer hired at the newspaper. His photos have been published nationally and international and has received numerous press awards over the years for his work. Some of these publications include: the Providence-Journal Bulletin, Sunday Magazine, the Fall River Herald, The Pawtucket Times, The Providence American, the Newpaper, RI Jewish Herald, National Business Review, the Providence Visitor, the New York Times, Newsweek, National Business Review, US Postal Service, US News and World Report, National Geographic, London Daily News and Der Spiegel. 

Christy Christopoulos, a native Rhode Islander born and raised - is a Pawtucket-based photographer who opened his studio in 1986. With over twenty years of experience in photography, he has had the opportunity to work on numerous and exciting accounts such as GE, Reebok FM Global, and PaineWebber and specializes in product and portrait photography. He has won several awards for his work, including a number of Kodak gallery awards, Fuji awards, and the Mead paper award

Aaron Usher is a Rhode Island based commercial photographer specializing in architecture, interiors, and fine-art photography. A 37-year pro, his clients are mainly companies in the building industry, such as architects & interior designers, as well as, web and graphic designers. This work is used to market his client’s businesses in magazines, web sites, and company brochures. Aaron's personal work featuring Ice Abstractions and Unusual Juxtapositions, in exhibited in galleries throughout the region. He lives in Pawtucket with his wife, Lynn and their golden retriever, Lily.
